Dual enrollment is the best thing on a homeschool application and the easiest thing to record badly. One transcript, honest grades, clear labels - here is the format admissions offices actually want.
Colleges want a single academic record for grades 9-12. Home courses, co-op classes, online school and dual enrollment all go on the same page, each with its source labeled in a notes or provider column. Do not send three partial transcripts and make admissions stitch them together.
The common convention: a 3- or 4-credit college semester course equals 1.0 high school credit. A 1-credit college lab or short course equals 0.5. Write the conversion once, in a note on the transcript, and apply it consistently.
| College course | College credits | HS credit |
|---|---|---|
| ENG 111 College Composition | 3 | 1.0 |
| HIS 121 United States History | 3 | 1.0 |
| BIO 101 Lab | 1 | 0.5 |
Use exactly the grade the college awarded, and count it in the GPA at face value. Two temptations to resist: weighting dual-enrollment courses up "because they're college" (unless you weight honestly and publish the rule), and smoothing a rough semester into something prettier. Admissions readers see both constantly, and the official college transcript will contradict you anyway.
At application time the college sends its own official transcript directly to each university - your student requests it from the registrar. Your homeschool transcript lists the courses; the college transcript proves them. Label this on yours: "Official Tidewater CC transcript available on request."
This consolidation is our specialty. The Records Office merges home, co-op, online and dual-enrollment records into one transcript every year - sources labeled, GPA computed, originals organized. Founding families: $99/year.
