The homeschool transcript: template, GPA math, and the co-op question.

There is no central office that issues homeschool transcripts - the parent-signed transcript is the standard format colleges expect. Here is the layout, the math, and how to handle grades you didn't give.

The layout

One page per student. Header: student full name, date of birth, your homeschool's name, and school year. Body: one table per year or one cumulative table. Footer: grading scale, cumulative GPA, and the administrator signature line.

CourseCreditGradeSource / notes
English 91.0AHome - Lightning Literature
Algebra I1.0B+Home - Teaching Textbooks
Biology w/ Lab1.0A-Co-op - Riverside Homeschool Co-op
Spanish I1.0BOnline - Vista Academy

The signature line: "I certify this is a true and accurate record. - Parent/Administrator, date."

GPA in four steps

  1. Pick a scale and publish it on the transcript: A=4.0, A-=3.7, B+=3.3, B=3.0, and so on.
  2. Convert every final grade to points.
  3. Multiply each by the course's credit value (1.0 for a full-year course, 0.5 for a semester).
  4. Total the points, divide by total credits. That number, to two decimals, is the cumulative GPA.

Co-op, hybrid, online, dual enrollment

The messy version is our specialty. The Records Office merges home, co-op, hybrid and dual-enrollment records into one transcript every year, with the math done and every source labeled. Founding families: $99/year.
