New Hampshire homeschool requirements: what you file, and when.

The New Hampshire rules in plain English - notice, testing, records, and the dates families actually miss. Verified against the official sources below on 2026-10-18.

Before anything else: this is orientation, not legal advice. Requirements change and local offices have their own habits. The sources at the bottom are the authority - check them before you file.

At a glance

Notice

Since the Home Education Freedom Act (HB 1268), commencement and termination notifications are no longer required. Home education is essentially unregulated at the filing level.

Where it goes: No one (notification repealed)

Testing and evaluation

No state evaluation requirement under the current law.

Subjects and records

Subjects: Parent-directed; districts evaluate prior learning only if the child enrolls in public school (Ed 306.23(j))

Records: No state records mandate. Keep a transcript - principals evaluate it if your child enters public school.

The dates to put in your calendar

Want this handled? The Records Office drafts your New Hampshire notice or filing every year, keeps the deadline calendar, and builds the transcript and course descriptions colleges expect. Founding families: $99/year.
