Oregon homeschool requirements: what you file, and when.

The Oregon rules in plain English - notice, testing, records, and the dates families actually miss. Verified against the official sources below on 2026-10-18.

Before anything else: this is orientation, not legal advice. Requirements change and local offices have their own habits. The sources at the bottom are the authority - check them before you file.

At a glance

Notice

Written notice to your education service district (ESD) within 10 days of starting to homeschool (or withdrawing a child to homeschool); the ESD acknowledges in writing.

Where it goes: Education service district (one-time notice per child)

Testing and evaluation

Testing at grades 3, 5, 8, and 10 by August 15 of those years - an approved test (Terra Nova/CAT, Iowa, Stanford) given by a neutral qualified person. Results are submitted to the ESD only if requested.

Subjects and records

Subjects: Parent-directed; no state subject list

Records: Keep test results; the ESD may request them, and low scores trigger a remediation sequence.
